Chief of Police

The City of Madison, a progressive, rapid growing city in north central Alabama, is seeking candidates for the position of Chief of Police to direct a full service police department with 110 total personnel including Patrol Division, Traffic Division, School Resource Officers, and Investigations, Dispatch, Records, Animal Control and other services.  The Chief of Police is appointed by the City Council and reports to the Mayor for a term coextensive with the term of Council.

Requirements:

• The position requires progressive police supervisory experience.

• Must have least 15 years of police experience with an excellent performance record in Federal, State or Local law enforcement.

• Ten years direct supervisory experience preferred, with experience at the Lieutenant or Commander level a plus.

• Bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or related field.  Masters level degree or coursework is a plus.

• Formal training in police administration, planning and methods as well as coursework in management and employment laws, also desirable.  Demonstrated knowledge of the state of the art in police science, modern policing techniques, public administration, personnel management and exceptional leadership skills are required.

• Residence in the City of Madison within six months of appointment.

Salary:

$70K - $104K D.O.Q.
