Salary: $4,015 - $6,434 monthlyProficient Officer - $6,756 monthly

THE POSITION
Under general supervision, police officers perform responsible police work, crime prevention, and community service functions in furtherance of department objectives. This is a sworn position that requires working nights, weekends, and holidays. Police officers are required to drive marked police vehicles equipped with radio equipment and mobile data computers.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Patrol assigned areas in marked police vehicle or on foot Ø Answer calls for service from the public Ø Make arrests and issue citations for violations of laws Ø Investigate criminal violations; interview victims, suspects, and witnesses Ø Secure, preserve and process crime scenes for physical evidence Ø Testify in court Ø Prepare oral and written reports of activities Ø Respond to emergencies involving injured and/or violent persons
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
PHYSICAL STANDARDS
Ø Excellent physical condition and emotional stability Ø Weight in proportion to height and frame Ø Vision corrected to 20/20 in both eyes; normal color vision Ø Normal hearing Ø Ability to stand, sit, squat, and kneel for extended periods of time Ø Ability to lift, carry, drag, pull, push persons or objects weighing at least 160 pounds Ø Ability to run for extended periods of time Ø Ability to observe, recall, and report detailed descriptions of persons, places, vehicles, and events Ø Ability to work for substantial periods of time while exposed to extreme weather conditions, irritants, and allergens

SELECTION PROCESS
The selection process may include completion of a written communication skills assessment, staff interview, background investigation, computer voice stress analysis examination, psychological assessment, medical exam, and Chief’s interview. All completed applications will be reviewed. The most qualified applicants will be invited for further consideration. Applicants meeting the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed advancement through the pre-employment screening process.
ABOUT THE POLICE DEPARTMENT
The Fairfield Police Department is a progressive and professional law enforcement agency. Specialty assignments include Investigations, Traffic (motorcycle and accident investigation), Training and Personnel, K-9, and Youth Services. Collateral assignment opportunities include SWAT, Crisis Negotiations Team, Firearms Instructor and Defensive Tactics Instructor. Patrol Officers currently work 12-hour shifts using a team-policing concept. The police department consists of 107 sworn officers and 60 support personnel.

Fairfield is a growing community with a balanced blend of residential, commercial and industrial land use. The City is located off Interstate 80 midway between San Francisco and Sacramento. The current population of the City is approximately 100,000 and covers about 35 square miles. Fairfield is home to Travis Air Force Base and several large industries. Fairfield is governed by a five-person City Council under a Council-Manager form of government.
