Essential Functions:

  • Performs a wide variety of duties focusing on coordinating the hiring, scheduling, training, and evaluation of all part-time instructors;

  • Coordinate and ensure the security of all phases of testing for the Supervisor CORE, Probation CORE, and Juvenile Correctional Officer CORE Academy students including written examinations, practical exercises, and scenarios;

  • Participate in the California Standards and Training for Corrections (STC) and the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) consortium meetings, workshops, and seminars and keep faculty informed of changes in curriculum, learning objectives, and testing;

  • Meet with, and advise, agency representatives on the progress of affiliated students;

  • Supervise, counsel and interact with the Probation CORE and Juvenile Correctional Officer Academy students and, when necessary, take appropriate disciplinary action;

  • Monitor inventory and condition of facilities and equipment;

  • Monitor safety guidelines for STC and College compliance;

  • Substitute for recruit training officer and certificated staff as necessary;

  • Plan and coordinate graduation ceremonies;

  • Operate computer and other equipment;

  • Schedule and coordinate in-service technical training courses on campus and at all off-site locations;

  • Seek opportunities and develop curriculum for new technical courses;

  • Provide oral and written reports;

  • Assist in marketing and promotion of the program;

  • Keep academy web site updated;

  • Keep Academy Access database updated and enter course registrations;

  • Maintain and update the STC Learning Management System (LMS);

  • Write new course certifications with lesson plans, outlines, and modify certifications as needed;

  • Attend meetings as assigned and participate in departmental, divisional, and campus-wide activities and committees and perform other related duties as needed;

  • Tracks and coordinates the Robert Presley Institute of Criminal Investigation Courses, including budget and contracts for Independent Contractors and Hotels;

  • Participate with faculty to develop and assess student learning outcomes, and use the results to improve teaching and learning;

  • Participate in program review;

  • Assist in the advancement of the institutional mission and goals;

  • Otherwise fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Any bachelor’s degree and two years of professional experience;

  • OR any associate degree and six years of professional experience;

  • OR a valid California Community College Credential;

  • OR the equivalent education and/or experience (requires an equivalency);

  • AND demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

 

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Include a master’s degree or higher in Criminology or related field, with six years corrections experience (four years of experience must be as a supervisor with a corrections or law enforcement agency) and documented experience as an instructor or trainer for a corrections or law enforcement agency or community college;

  • Knowledge of generally accepted procedures and training delivery strategies as mandated by STC, including adult learning concepts and techniques;

  • Principles of planning, scheduling, organizing and supervision;

  • Equipment typically used by corrections, probation or law enforcement;

  • Is or has been a certified training manager for a participating agency within STC;

  • Microsoft Office software applications;

  • Operation of audio/visual equipment and other educational technologies;

  • Ability to employ excellent verbal and written communication skills including correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation;

  • Review the work of adjunct faculty;

  • Ability to receive and follow instructions and appropriately interact with students, staff, faculty, and the public;

  • Possess excellent interpersonal skills and ability to function in a fast paced multi-functional workplace;

  • Ability to plan, prepare, and deliver public presentations;

  • Work with a significant degree of independence and use good judgment;

  • Understand and have sensitivity to ethnic, cultural and gender issues;

  • Train, and evaluate adjunct faculty;

  • Learn and apply college and district policies and procedures.

 

Conditions of Employment:

 

177 - 224 duty days

 

 

Salary and Benefits:

 

Starting salary is $54,029 – $102,941 based on education and experience.

 

A doctoral stipend of $2,021 is available.

 

In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teachers’ Retirement System (CalSTRS).

 

 

Selection Procedure:

 

Applications will be screened to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.

 

From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents, a selection committee will determine the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications. They will be invited to interview.

 

The selection committee will rate responses to the interview questions, teaching demonstration and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the “recommended candidates”. These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President of Instruction and College President for final interviews. A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.
