CenCom E9-1-1 Public Safety Communications



The Communications Supervisor is the first line supervision position at CenCom E9-1-1 that works under the direct supervision of a Deputy Director. The Communications Supervisor must be able to perform all duties of a Telecommunicator II and work as a part of the management team.




  • Subject must be able to pass thorough background check.

  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.

  • Applicants may also be subject to a pre-employment psychological and medical exam.

  • Applicants will also be required to type at least 30 wpm, and must have excellent communications skills.

  • Ability to clearly speak without any pronounced accent or speech impediment and write the English language.

  • Current L.E.A.D.S. full access certification.

  • The applicant must also have minimum of one (1) year experience as a public safety Telecommunicator answering 9-1-1 calls and dispatching police, fire and EMS units.

  • A Communications Supervisor should have experience in using a CAD (computer aided dispatch) system.

  • A two (2) year degree in public administration, communications or other related public safety field is preferred.

  • Must be able to pass a one (1) year probationary period.



  • Must be able to perform all duties of a Telecommunicator II and operate a position within the communications center.

  • Provide direct supervision for Telecommunicators I and II while working a shift.

  • Evaluate Telecommunicators assigned to their shift.

  • Oversee all training of new employees on their shift.

  • Issue verbal warnings and recommend discipline when warranted.

  • Perform Quality Assurance review of calls handled by their assigned personnel.

  • Monitor and inspect the condition of the Communications Center, Detention Facility, and its equipment, reporting any problems found to the Deputy Director and/or Director.




Starting Pay:


$29.86 an hour ($62,116.81 annually)

  • Minimum of One year Public Safety Communications experience required

  • Twelve hour work schedule – every other weekend off

  • Excellent benefits, Health PPO/HMO/HRA, Dental PPO/HMO

  • Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund (IMRF) position
