The Village of Barrington Hills, Illinois is accepting applications for the position of reserve (part-time) police officer with the Barrington Hills Police Department.
 


Duties and Responsibilities Include:

  • Full-service Municipal Policing

  • Enforcement of State and Local Laws

  • Prepare written reports on assigned tasks and attend court, and testify when necessary

  • Community Policing, assist and render aid to citizens, conduct building checks, and investigate suspicious persons, vehicles, noises, etc.

  • Uniform patrol, traffic control, motor vehicle assists, and traffic crash investigations

  • Work a minimum of 20 hours per month; restricted to no more than 29 hours per week and no more than 86 hours per month. Each shift worked must be a minimum of four (4) hours up to 12 hours. Shift may be extended based on call volume or emergency
  • Must submit work availability no later than one (1) week prior to the beginning of each month
  • Shifts will be assigned on a rotating basis based on seniority among the reserve officers. The senior reserve officer's shift requests will be considered first, followed by the least senior reserve officer. The rotation will continue until all shift requests are considered. Shifts will be assigned based on the operational needs of the Department
  • Required to attend continuing in-service training and qualifications equal to requirements for full-time officers


Starting Salary:

 

$25 per hour

 

(Uniform, firearm, soft body armor, and leather equipment issued by Department)

 

All applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications and requirements at the time of application as established by the Village of Barrington Hills:

  • Be a U.S. citizen

  • Minimum of 21 years of age by date of hire

  • Currently certified as a law enforcement officer (or able to re-certify according to ILETSB requirements)

    • Note:  Must not be out of certified law enforcement status for 3 years or more

  • Possess a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent

  • Possess a minimum of 30 credit hours from an accredited college or university

  • No felony convictions (or convictions for certain misdemeanors)

  • Possess a valid State-issued driver's license (Note: Must possess a valid Illinois Driver's License at time of employment)

  • Have vision correctable to 20/20

  • Pass a written examination

  • Applicants must possess a P.O.W.E.R. Test identification card issued by Northern Illinois Public Safety Training Academy (NIPSTA), Joliet Community College, or Triton Community College

    • NOTE: The P.O.W.E.R. Test card requirement will be waived if the applicant has worked within the past 12 months as a law enforcement officer

  • Reside within a one hour drive-time from the Village of Barrington Hills

  • Pay a $45.00 non-refundable application processing fee
