Entry-Level Police Officer Hiring Process

The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners of the Village of Bartlett, Illinois is accepting applications for the position of police officer with the Bartlett Police Department.



All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements established by the Village of Bartlett:

  • U.S. citizenship

  • No felony convictions

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • At the time of employment, applicant must be legally eligible to operate a motor vehicle in the State of Illinois

  • Minimum of 21 years of age at time of application; be UNDER 35 years of age at the time of application and at such time as the initial eligibility list is posted, unless otherwise exempt by Statute

  • No residency requirement

  • Previous Bartlett Police Department applicants are eligible to re-apply

  • All employees are expected to present a professional appearance. Body piercing, other than ear piercing, must not be visible. Visible tattoos, intentional branding and/or scarring are prohibited and may not be covered with bandages, makeup, or additional clothing while wearing a short-sleeved uniform.

  • Restrictions are also in place for hair styles, facial hair, and any facial modifications that deviate from conventional anatomical features such as earlobe gauges, subdermal implants, tongue piercing, etc.

  • $35.00 non-refundable application processing fee

  • Application Deadline: 5/4/16 4:00 PM CST


A maximum of 5 Preference Points will be awarded as determined by the Village of Bartlett for the following:


Candidates who are eligible for preference points shall submit their claim in writing, along with the required documentation, within ten days after the posting of the Initial Eligibility Register.

  • Military Experience: Active duty U.S. military service members with an un-redacted Honorable Discharge.  DD-214 may be submitted with application.

  • College Degree: Candidates must have successfully obtained an Associate’s Degree in the field of law enforcement or criminal justice; or a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university. Certified school transcripts or copy of diploma may be submitted with application. Official sealed school transcripts will be required at the Background Investigation stage.

  • Current Illinois Law Enforcement Officers: Persons awarded a certificate attesting to the successful completion of the Minimum Standards Basic Law Enforcement Training Course as provided in the Illinois Police Training Act and are currently serving as a law enforcement officer on a part-time or full-time basis within the State of Illinois. A copy of your certificate may be submitted with the application.
