The candidate shall provide an atmosphere of safety and security with in specific academic buildings on campus. The candidate shall be present in the building while classes are in session. The candidate shall answer all calls of a non-criminal nature that originate from within those specific academic buildings during the given shift. Candidates shall utilize tactful communication skills and conflict resolution to resolve incidents which arise within the buildings.
Request University Police Officer assistance when needed or if routine calls become criminal in nature. Assist University Police Officers with criminal calls within those buildings as need and/or requested by University Police Officers.
Candidates must be available for Overtime on weekends and opposite shifts on an “as needed” basis. Candidate will be expected to become certified in CPR and the use of Expandable Baton, Handcuffing, OC Spray and the application of law.
Provide general information and assistance to the public, and participate in community oriented policing efforts. Community Oriented Policing includes, but is not limited to: friendly engagement with members of the community through talking and professional socializing, conducting presentations to the community on various topics and conducting programming (which has an educational base) for students to allow for a non-criminal related interaction with the students.
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Minimum Job Requirements:
High School Graduate
A minimum of (1) year’s law enforcement employment preferred, (1-2) years of college or university security or military experience welcome.
Strong interpersonal skills, ability to adapt to ever-changing policy/procedure, ability to recognize potential liability for the department and University. Be able to become certified in the use of and knowledge of liability of OC Spray, Expandable Baton and Handcuffs.
Specific Knowledge, Licenses, Certifications:
Illinois Law Enforcement Certification preferred, but not required. IACLEA certification or other Campus Safety certification strongly preferred.
Supervisory Responsibility (if applicable):
All weather conditions and although shift would be days or evenings, based on a (8) hour rotations with set days off, schedule needs may dictate change from time to time.
