The Boone County Sheriff’s Office is now accepting applications for the position of Corrections Officer for Boone County.


Testing is being conducted for immediate hires and to establish a new eligibility list.


Boone County Corrections Officers under the authority and supervision of the Boone County Sheriff, provide for the custody of individuals awaiting trial, serving sentences up to one year, or sentences to periodic imprisonment. The Mission of the Boone County Corrections Officers is to maintain secure custody of the detainees entrusted to their care, while providing a safe, secure and clean environment for the detainees and staff.

You must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Citizenship:  Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • Driver’s License:  Must have a valid driver's license with the ability to obtain an Illinois Driver's license upon hiring

  • Age Requirement:  Must have attained their 21st birthday at the time of the last date for filing applications (09/10/15)

  • Education:  Must have a High School Diploma, GED, or High School Proficiency Certificate

  • Character:  Must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character

  • Eyesight:  Eyesight must be correctable to 20/20 in each eye

  • Testing:  Must be able to participate and successfully complete all phases of the testing

  • Residence:  After appointment individual must reside within 21 miles of the Public Safety Building (615 North Main St. Belvidere, IL)
