The Village of Channahon, Illinois, resident population of 13,000+, seeks an
experienced law enforcement leader to serve as this communityís next Chief of
Police. The current Chief of Police is retiring after 6 years as Chief and 22
years with the department.
Channahon is located
45 miles southwest of Chicago, just west of Joliet and east of Morris in
southwest Will County and eastern Grundy County, encompassing portions of
Channahon, Troy and Aux Sable Townships.
The Village of Channahon Police Department is an ILEAP accredited law
enforcement agency dedicated to providing professional police services to the
Channahon community. The Department currently consists of 23 members that
includes 2 Deputy Chiefs, 5 Sergeants, 13 Patrol Officers, 2 Records Clerks and
1 PT Community Service Officer.
The Chief of Police acts as the chief executive officer of the Police Department
and directs, controls, supervises, manages and coordinates all activities and
officers and employees of the Police Department. The preferred candidate must
possess experience with a variety of tasks and duties associated with the
position in that regard. In addition, the Chief of Police must attend all
Village Board and Board of Police and Fire Commission meetings as directed.
The successful candidate
will hold a bachelorís degree from a four-year college or university with major
course work in criminal justice, business, or public administration or a related
field, preferably supplemented by a masterís degree in public or business
administration or closely related fields.
Candidates must possess
thorough experience in police operations and administration including experience
in a supervisory capacity or any equivalent combination of training and
experience that provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills,
including, but not limited to:
excellent written and
ability to work
effectively with elected officials, staff and the public;
