The Coal City Board of Fire and Police Commissioners are accepting applications to establish an eligibility list for the Coal City Police Department.  The Rules and Regulations of the Board of Commissioners will govern all applicants.

The Coal City Police Officers are an essential part of the community and their presence whether on patrol or working in specialized assignments such as the school resource officer program, are aimed at ensuring a safe and peaceful community.  The Success of the Department depends on a strong partnership with the community they serve.  All efforts are aimed at making Coal City a safer place for all to live, work and visit.

You must meet the following minimum requirements:

• Citizenship:  Must be a U.S. Citizen

• Driver’s License:  Must have a valid Driver’s License or the ability to obtain an Illinois License upon hiring.

• Age Requirement:  Must be between the ages of 21 and 34

• Education:  Must have a High School Diploma, GED or High School Proficiency Certificate

• Character:  Must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character

• Testing:  Must be able to successfully complete a written test, an oral board interview, pass a background investigation, psychological and polygraph test, as well as a pre-employment medical and physical ability examination.

All individuals meeting eligibility requirements are encouraged to continue with the application process.

There is a $25.00 non-refundable application fee.  Applications are not available at the Coal City police Department or the Village Hall.
