The Community Service Officer will provide services and protection for college properties, interests, students, faculty, supportive staff and guests.

  • Enforce college rules and regulations pertaining to traffic and parking, posting of notices, distributing tracts and pamphlets, assemblages of persons, and use of buildings and grounds.

  • Assist as needed at traffic accidents, fire services, traffic control and traffic services.

  • Assist other local police agencies in the DuPage County area upon request.

  • Relay any police related information to responsible police personnel for action as necessary.

  • Provide information and directions, lock and unlock buildings and rooms, assist motorists locked out of their vehicles and jump-start their vehicles. Render first aid, monitor, report and take necessary action in reference to severe weather or similar emergencies, direct vehicular traffic on and off campus when necessary, provide protective escorts for persons legally requesting the same.

  • Transporting vehicles and equipment for service or repairs, pick-up or delivery of items.

  • Provide dispatching services when required. (Must be LEADS Full Access certifiable).

  • Provide emergency assistance.

  • Primarily weekday shifts with some weekend and late night shifts.

  • Fraternal Order of Police Union Position.


Essential Function Tasks:

  • Identify persons of interest/objects.

  • Help extricate person from auto accidents and push disabled vehicles out of the way of traffic.

  • Assist in the location and or identification of suspects on foot, possibly climbing or jumping over fences, and running up several flights of stairs.






One or more years working in a security field or other comparable experience which includes public relations and customer service.




Or equivalent combination of education and experience.







High school and some college level courses in Criminal Justice.




Two year degree in Criminal Justice.



Equipment consists of designated CSO Vehicle, barricades, lost & found articles, portable radio and issued uniforms and equipment.


Working conditions, primarily in outdoor environment with vehicle. Possibly outside during inclement conditions for extended periods of time.

Per Fraternal Order of Police Contract

Average 40 hour workweek, with some overtime available.
