Supervisor, Public Safety

Elmhurst, IL

Full Time: Combination of 2pm - 10:30pm and 10pm - 6:30am shifts

 

 

The Public Safety Supervisor for the Public Safety Command Center is a working supervisor and performs all the duties and responsibilities of a Public Safety Telecommunicator.  The Public Safety Supervisorís basic functions involve the supervision of all Public Safety Telecommunicators, supervising the day to day operations of the Public Safety Command Center, and maintaining a working schedule to provide 24 hour staffing coverage.

 

The Public Safety Supervisor requires a considerable degree of initiative and independent judgment within procedural boundaries in responding to emergency incidents in a variety of situations.  The Public Safety Supervisorís work may be done independently or in conjunction with other Public Safety Telecommunicators. The Public Safety Supervisor will assist the Public Safety Manager with all training, teaching, and management of all operational equipment within the Public Safety Command Center.

 

The Public Safety Supervisorís position requires a dedicated shift assignment, weekend on-call, and overtime in accordance with maintaining a fully operational 24 hour facility.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directly supervises the Public Safety Telecommunicator which includes completing annual performance evaluations, monitoring daily performance, and providing coaching and counseling to improve performance or behavior;

  • Responds to customer complaints and provides service recovery when required;

  • Assists the Public Safety Manager in the process of interviewing and hiring of new Telecommunicators;

  • Receives and responds to emergency and non-emergency calls from  employees, law enforcement agencies, public,  security staff, and other emergency personnel via telephone and radio systems and computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems and inputs pertinent data into computer system;

  • Maintains appropriate security and confidentiality of information  of highly sensitive material created or encountered in the performance of assigned duties;

 

EDUCATION:

 

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED level of education

Desired:

  • Associates Degree in Criminal Justice or Equivalent

 

WORK EXPERIENCE:

 

Required:

  • At least three (3) years supervisor experience, three (3) years 911 or Call Center Experience

Desired:

  • At least three (3) years of Hospital, Law Enforcement, or Military Experience

 

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:

 

Required:

  • Valid State of Illinois Drivers License, (upon hire) CPR issued by American Heart Association (within 6 months of hire)

  • This position requires attaining and maintaining certification from the Association of Public-Safety Communications Officials International (APCO); specifically, APCOís Public Safety Telecommunicator 1 certification, sixth edition within (6) months of employment and Communications Center Supervisor certification with (12) months of employment.

 

Criminal Background Check and Drivers License Check will be performed initially as part of pre-employment screening and annually thereafter.
