The Board of Fire Commissioners of the Elburn & Countryside Fire Protection District hereby gives notice that examinations will be offered to all eligible applicants to create an Eligibility List for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic.


The Elburn & Countryside Fire Protection District is currently accepting applications for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic.



Applications must be obtained in person at:


Elburn Fire Station One

210 E. North Street

Elburn, IL


beginning April 23, 2012 through May 11, 2012

during the hours of 7:00 am to Noon and 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm


Monday thru Friday only


Applications must be filed in person by no later than 4:00 pm on May 11, 2012 at Elburn Fire Station One.



All applicants must meet the following

minimum requirements:

  • $25.00 non-refundable application fee

  • At the time of application, applicants must be at least 21 years of age and no more than 35 years of age except otherwise provided by state statue; Copy of Birth Certificate required

  • Proof of US Citizenship

  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent

  • Valid Illinois Drivers License

  • Firefighter II or equivalent and licensed Paramedic at time of application

  • Attend mandatory orientation and all phases of testing

  • Pass written exam and oral interview

  • Submit proof of having successfully completed the Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) within one year prior to the scheduled date of the written examination. Valid CPAT card must be submitted to the district by no later than 4:00 pm on June 15, 2012.

  • Pass a medical and psychological examination and background investigation

  • Possess good moral character


Candidates are to arrive at Elburn Fire Station One no later than 7:00 pm on May 17th, 2012 for mandatory orientation. The written exam will be held on May 19, 2012 at 8:00 am; written exam location to be determined.  Late entry into orientation and/or written exam will not be allowed. No exceptions.


Qualified applicants will have the opportunity to apply for up to 20 preference points for Veteran points (5), Educational points; Associates degree in related field (2) and/or Bachelorís degree from accredited college or university (3), Experience points (5) and/or Residency within the boundaries of the Elburn & Countryside Fire Protection District points (5).
