The City of Elgin is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Police Officer. Elgin is a rapidly growing community with a population over 108,000 operating under a City Manager form of government. The Elgin Police Department currently has 180 uniformed police officers.

At the time of the written exam, all candidates must be:
Copies of birth certificate, driver’s license, college transcripts or college diploma, and if applicable a DD 214 must be submitted with application or copies brought to Human Resources by the application deadline to be accepted.
Written Examination:
The mandatory Orientation and Written Examination will be held on March 12, 2013 at:
Elgin Community College Seigle Auditorium, UBC Building 1700 Spartan Drive Elgin, IL
Following the application deadline you will be assigned to one of two test times: 8:00 a.m. or 11:00 a.m. Prior to March 8, 2013 you will receive an email indicating your assigned exam time. The test is a video based test and will last approximately 2.5 hours. Only those individuals who have supplied their documentation and submitted their application with $20.00 fee will be allowed to test.
Background Investigation:
The top 50 candidates who successfully pass the written examination will be subject to a background investigation which consists of the following: complete criminal history check at the national, state and local level; complete traffic history at the state and local level; review of employment history with prior employers and possibly current employer; verification of military status (if applicable); personal/phone interviews with at least three (3) personal references.
Power Test Certification:
The top 50 candidates who successfully pass the written examination will be required to obtain their Power Test certification card from NIPSTA (Northeastern Illinois Public Safety Training Academy) by April 30, 2013 or provide a valid Power Test certification card dated March 1, 2012 or later.
Power Test certification classes are being conducted on March 23, March 25, and April 20, 2013.

APPLICATION FEE:
There is a $20.00 fee for submitting an application. The fee must be paid by March 1, 2013 in order to validate the application and qualify for the mandatory exam.*
The fee can be paid:
1. At the cashier in the main lobby of City Hall
or
2. Sent to the City of Elgin by mail - if sent by mail, please include a copy of the email confirmation that your application was received to ensure your payment gets accurately posted. You will be emailed a confirmation that your payment was received.
