The Elmhurst Fire Department is currently accepting applications for the position of Firefighter!

The application deadline is June 29, 2017 at 4:00 p.m.



You must meet the following minimum requirements

by the application deadline:

  • $35 non-refundable application fee;

  • United States citizen;

  • Must be 21 years of age, and under 35 years of age at time of application, or as otherwise exempt by statute;

  • High School Diploma (or its equivalent);

  • Valid Driver's License;

  • Illinois Department of Public Health EMT-BASIC (EMT-B) license at the time of application.  EMT-B must also be current at time of conditional offer;

  • Illinois Firefighter II or Basic Operations Firefighter Certificate;

  • Valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) card and approved Ladder Climb Card issued no more than 365 days prior to the date scheduled for the written exam.  (Valid if dated: 7/29/2016 to 7/29/2017). CPAT certification must also be current at time of conditional offer.


As proof that you meet the minimum requirements outlined above the following documentation is required by June 29, 2017 at 4:00 p.m.:

  • Copy of high school diploma or equivalent

  • Copy of valid driver's license

  • Copy of birth record as proof of citizenship or legal authorization to work in the U.S. (one of the following is required: county/state issued birth certificate, passport, or naturalization papers)

  • EMT-Basic license

  • IL Firefighter II or Basic Operations certification (OSFM)

  • Copy of CPAT and ladder climb certification(s)


All portions of the testing process are mandatory. Failure to attend and complete any portion of the process will result in elimination from employment consideration.
