Description of Duties and Responsibilities:

Works actively with all segments of the community and other City and social agencies to identify problems and develop cooperative and coordinated strategies to deal with crime and crime-related problems. Initiates activities to build positive partnership with neighborhood, civic, and other community agencies. Conducts high visibility patrols, either on foot or in a vehicle, in order to prevent crime or disturbance of the peace, to control traffic, and to maintain order. Participates in prevention strategies throughout the community, conducts preliminary investigations, and makes arrests.

 

Tutorial and POWER Test

The Tutorial (optional) and POWER Test (qualifying) will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2008, at Evanston Township High School, 1600 Dodge Avenue, Evanston, IL, starting at 8:00 AM.  Those attending the Tutorial will go to the Bacon Cafeteria and take the POWER Test after the Tutorial session.  Those who do not wish to participate in the Tutorial will proceed to the Weight/Fitness Room to begin the POWER Test.

 

The Examination:

To become an Evanston Police Officer, you must successfully complete the following:

• Police Officer Wellness Examination Program (POWER Test) -- Qualifying - Pass/Fail

• Written Examination –Pass/Fail

• Structured Oral Interview -- Qualifying - Pass/Fail

• Polygraph Examination -- Qualifying

• Psychological Examination -- Qualifying

• Civil Service Commission Review -- Qualifying

• Pre-employment Medical Evaluation & Drug/Alcohol Screens

• Two points will be added to your final score if you are eligible for Veteran's Preference.
