The City of Geneseo Board of Police Commissioners is currently accepting applications for both lateral and new recruit applicants.

  1. Certification from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board as a certified full time police officer; and

  1. Previous continuous service as a Police Officer in the State of Illinois for a minimum of two years; and

  1. In good standing in the Police Department in which the person currently serves or separated from with no adverse employment action; and

  1. Eligible to be granted a waiver of basic training from the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.

  1. Must pass oral examination/interview, psychological, polygraph, medical and background checks.


Lateral Entry Application Deadline:






  1. At least 21 years old.

  1. Not over 35 years old unless exempt from such age limitations as provided in Section 5/10-2.1-6 of the Fire and Police Commissioners Act.

  1. Citizen of the United States.

  1. High School Graduate or equivalent.

  1. Must pass Physical Aptitude, Written, Oral, Psychological, Polygraph and Medical Exams and a Background check.
