The Village of Glen Ellyn’s Police Department is seeking qualified candidates
for the position of part-time Community Service Officer “CSO”.
The job duties of the CSO include, but are not limited to:
Performing a variety of technical and administrative tasks in support of the
Police Department’s operations
To enforce State and local traffic and parking regulations
To perform limited investigative work, and to provide responsive, courteous and
efficient service to Village residents and the general public.
Patrol streets to discover violation of laws and ordinances and take
Answer calls and complaints involving animal problems, parking and traffic
issues, vehicle lock-outs, minor automobile accidents, abandoned vehicles,
hazards, nuisances, and other situations requiring police assistance or
Monitor parking boxes for proper payment, issue tickets as necessary
Deliver and pick-up miscellaneous packages for the Police Department
Perform physical building security checks as assigned
Direct traffic at fire and accident scenes, special events, and other
emergency or congested situations
Provide public information regarding law enforcement and crime prevention;
conducts community presentations and facility tours as assigned
Qualified candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, with a
minimum of one year of previous professional work experience or related
Previous work experience in public safety/law enforcement or related local
government setting is preferred, but not required.
The Village is seeking qualified candidates who demonstrate excellent verbal
and written communication skills, including the ability to convey empathy and
understanding under various conditions.
Attention to detail and the flexibility to work both independently and as part
of a team is also highly desirable.
Applicants will be required to interpret and apply Village, State, and Federal
laws and procedures; and interpret and apply Village policies and procedures,
written instructions, and general correspondence.
Must be able to exercise good judgment and effectively solve problems in a
variety of situations.
Qualified applicants must also be able to demonstrate general proficiency in
operating customary office equipment, including computers and related
software, such as Microsoft Office and Windows-based programs.

General work schedule will be during weekday evenings and on weekends. The
average work hours will range from 16 to 18 hours per week. Additional hours

to $26.02/hour DOQ with no additional fringe benefits.
