DESCRIPTION:

 

The Village of Glenview is seeking to fill the Public Service Officer (PSO) position within the Police Department.  This is a uniformed, civilian position that helps support the Department’s mission in protecting the health, safety, and welfare of the community. PSOs play an integral role in handling many non-violent service calls and crime prevention activities, thereby allowing the Department to dedicate police officer resources to pro-active enforcement activities and criminal-related matters.  The primary job functions include ordinance enforcement, traffic control, completing traffic accident reports, assisting motorists, performing courier services, installing child safety seats, and maintaining accurate records and files.  The position also responds to occasional department call-outs in cases of emergencies and natural disasters (e.g. floods, tornadoes, blizzards.). The incumbent spends most of his/her time performing enforcement and patrol activities in a marked PSO vehicle. Additional duties include data entry, filing, and providing exceptional customer service both in-person and via phone. Performs other related duties as assigned.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Qualified candidates should have a high school degree or the equivalent at the time of application.

  • Ideal candidates must demonstrate an overall enthusiasm for public service, and a commitment to proudly serving the community.

  • A minimum of one year of professional work experience is required; previous PSO-related experience is a plus, but not required.

  • Candidates must possess proficient computer and typing skills, with demonstrated experience using MS Office software.

  • The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate excellent customer service skills, with the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public.

  • Candidates should also possess the ability to exercise sound judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.

  • Candidates should be able to follow verbal and written instructions, while possessing the ability to work independently.

  • Qualified candidates must be able to demonstrate the ability to learn applicable laws, ordinances, and Department regulations.

  • Must be able to work flexible hours, weekends, and holidays; Typical work schedule is Monday through Friday, 8am to 4pm.

  • Qualified candidates must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time, and sit for several hours while operating a Village vehicle; must also be willing to work outdoors, sometimes in adverse weather conditions.

  • Must have a valid Illinois Driver’s License at the time of application.

  • Selected candidate must be able to pass a pre-employment criminal background check and a physical, including a drug screen, as a condition of employment.

 

PAY/BENEFITS:

 

Starting pay is $43,023/year with excellent fringe benefits.

 

This is a non-union position, and is non-exempt under FLSA.
