911 Communications Director


The Grundy County Consolidated 9-1-1 Center, located in Morris, Illinois, is seeking a highly qualified individual to fill the full-time position of Director.  The Director is responsible for the day to day operations of the 9-1-1- Center.


The Grundy County Consolidated 9-1-1 Center is responsible for dispatching police services for the Grundy County Sheriff’s Department as well as the communities of Morris, Minooka, Coal City, Seneca and Mazon.  The 911 Center also dispatches fire/ems for the communities of Morris, Coal City, Seneca, Mazon, Braceville, Gardner, South Wilmington, Verona-Kinsman and MVK Ambulance.


The Director’s responsibilities include directing the staff of sixteen (16) full-time Telecommunicators and four (4) part-time Telecommunicators and the activities of the 9-1-1 center including; budget planning, implementation and management, training, discipline, long range planning, compliance with state and federal regulations regarding 9-1-1 systems, collective bargaining negotiations, the preparation of comprehensive reports regarding financial transactions and operational statistics, and preparation, implementation and execution of local, state and federal grants.  The Director is also required to attend various meetings as required by the board.


Candidates should have comprehensive knowledge of the principles and practice of government management, state and federal regulations pertaining to 9-1-1 systems and 9-1-1 system design.  The Director is an employee of the Grundy County Emergency Telephone System Board (ETSB).

  • It is preferred the Director be an individual who has a minimum 10 years experience as a police, fire, ems telecommunicator, law enforcement officer, or fire service professional, as well as managerial/supervisory experience.

  • The person should possess the skills to be a strong leader who has a thorough knowledge of a 9-1-1 center, technical issues, budgeting, and operations management.

  • The person should have excellent communications and interpersonal skills, self-motivated, dedicated, resourceful and honest.
