Administrative Secretary - Police Department

 

The Village of Gurnee is accepting applications for the position of Administrative Secretary in the Police Department.

 

 

Typical responsibilities and duties include:

  • Providing administrative and secretarial support to the Chief of Police and Administrative Command staff;

  • Interaction with the public;

  • Requires high degree of confidentiality in performance of job duties;

  • Filing of department correspondence, reports, and other materials;

  • Drafting, typing, and proofreading department letters, memos, and other correspondence for the Chief of Police and staff;

  • Assisting in the preparation of reports and other documents;

  • Maintenance of various spreadsheets;

  • Scheduling appointments;

  • Preparing and processing departmental payroll;

  • Other related job duties. 

 

General qualifications include:

  • Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in administrative office management, business administration, or related curriculum;

  • At least 4 years experience performing comparable administrative office duties; or equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to perform in this position.

  • Must demonstrate basic proficiency in the use of both Word and Excel with intermediate/advanced knowledge desirable;

  • Have demonstrated ability to draft, type, and proofread business letters;

  • Basic proficiency in use of database programs such as Access;

  • Knowledge of desktop publishing software or related software is desirable;

  • Notary Public Registration a plus.

 

Starting Hourly Rate (as of May 1, 2012):

 

$21.63+/hour, DOQ

 

Hours of work are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday; full time position. 

 

 

The hiring process includes:

  • Computer-based skills testing;

  • Oral interview;

  • Background investigation;

  • Post-offer medical examination and drug screen.

 

Due to the anticipated candidate response, only those applicants with experience and skills most closely meeting the needs of this position may be invited to participate in testing exercises.  Top qualifying candidates may be invited for interview and further testing.  The Village of Gurnee reserves the right to change this process.
