Traffic Safety Technician - Police Department

 

The Village of Gurnee is accepting applications for the position of Traffic Safety Technician in the Police Department.

 

 

Typical responsibilities and duties include:

  • Administration of the photo enforcement program;

  • Administration of the administrative seizure/penalty program;

  • Operation of the administrative hearing process;

  • Traffic safety grant administration.

 

Other duties include:

  • Conducting public education and training related to traffic safety topics;

  • Preparing and reviewing reports related to traffic safety and enforcement activities;

  • Research and development of grant proposals;

  • Other related job duties.

 

This position requires a high degree of public interaction and strong communication skills, both verbal and written.  Requires ability to perform job tasks in a confidential manner.

 

 

General qualifications include:

  • Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in criminal justice or related curriculum;

  • At least 3 years sworn law enforcement and community relations experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to perform in this position.

  • Requires knowledge of traffic safety principles, strategies, and practices;

  • Knowledge of state laws and other policies related to traffic and law enforcement.

  • Requires a valid drivers license;

  • Basic proficiency in the use of both Word and Excel with intermediate knowledge desirable;

  • Basic proficiency in use of database programs such as Access; Knowledge of desktop publishing software is desirable;

  • General familiarity with social media and internet use;

  • Current LEADS full access certification desirable; if not currently certified, must have ability to obtain LEADS full access certification within 60 days of hire.

 

Salary Range:

 

$42,841 - $57,411; actual salary DOQ

 

Hours of work are 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., Monday thru Friday; full time position. 

 

 

The hiring process includes:

  • Oral interview;

  • Background investigation;

  • Post-offer medical examination and drug screen.
