Harper College is seeking an experienced Chief of Police to join our organization. This position will manage and command the operation of the Harper College Police Department in order to ensure consistency with community-based policing and fact-based systems that meet the needs of Harper College. You will provide leadership and ensure that Campus Police policies, procedures, practices, services and programs are appropriate and responsive to a well-established, large suburban college campus with satellite facilities. You will also supervise and direct employees of the Harper College Police Department (HCPD), as well as establish department goals and objectives consistent with the Harper College Strategic Plan. Serving as the Collegeís designated Emergency Management Coordinator, you will plan, prepare and disseminate Emergency Operations Plans consistent with the National Response Plan (NRP) and National Incident Management System (NIMS).

 

 

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in criminal justice, public administration, social science or related field; Master's degree and completion of a major police management program such as the Federal Bureau of Investigationís FBI National Academy preferred

  • A minimum of five years of supervisory experience with a college/university police department or a municipal, county, state or federal law enforcement agency;   Community College environment a plus

  • Must be a Certified Illinois Peace Officer, or be able to acquire Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB) certification

  • Annual mandatory qualification/certification required by law to include: Annual Firearms qualification and Police Chiefs 20-hour annual training

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Oracle, as well as law enforcement-related software
