Position Title: Chief of Police





The Village of Huntley is seeking a Chief of Police to lead its CALEA-Accredited Police Department consisting of 39 full-time employees (33 sworn) whose mission is to provide high quality professional police service in partnership with the community. The current Chief is retiring after 10 years of service, and the Village has had two chiefs in the last 20 years.


The Village is seeking candidates with a record of significant public safety accomplishment in a growing community of a similar size or larger. This key administrative position reports directly to the Village Manager and serves as a member of the Executive Management Team and is expected to work collaboratively with other Village Department Heads. The position is responsible for the protection of lives and property in the Village through the supervision of all police functions. The Chief of Police is expected to lead the department through direction, coordination, and staff development to provide the highest level of service to the community.


The Chief is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing the efficient and effective daily operation of the Police Department, assuring that laws and ordinances are enforced, that criminal offenders are identified and apprehended, and measures are implemented to prevent crimes and to protect lives and property. The Chief is responsible for management and oversight of the department budget. The Chief prepares plans and policies to be followed in conducting police operations and exercises supervision over all employees of the department. The Chief will be required to make presentations at various public forums and Village Board meetings as needed.




  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or a related field required; Master’s Degree preferred.

  • Police Chief Certification or Certified Eligible status through Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police.

  • Executive Management certificates including, but not limited to, the FBI National Academy, Certified Law Enforcement Executive Program (CLEE), completion of coursework at the Southern Police Institute or Northwestern University Center for Public Safety desired.

  • Extensive experience with the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) highly desired.




Salary range for this position is dependent upon qualifications, experience, skills, education, knowledge, and abilities.
