Lake Bluff, IL  (pop.  5,722)  Beautiful, progressive lake front community seeks skilled Police Chief with exceptional interpersonal skills and demonstrated leadership and management experience in law enforcement.


The Village of Lake Bluff is a family oriented community with excellent schools and beautiful parks and beach located 30 miles north of Chicago on the shore of Lake Michigan.  The Village is known for its low crime rate and friendly, approachable police department. 


The Lake Bluff Police Department is CALEA accredited, has 15 sworn officers, 6 civilian employees, $2.6 million budget and experiences approximately 12,000 annual calls for service.  The Police Chief is appointed by the Village Board of Trustees and serves on the Village Administratorís executive leadership team.   The current Chief is retiring after serving as Chief for the last 12 years. 


The Village is seeking highly professional candidates who will continue the departmentís culture of excellence in policing.  Candidates must be familiar with progressive policing principles and have a demonstrated record of success in developing effective relationships within their department or agency and the community at large.  The Police Chief is expected to be a visible, involved Police Chief.  The next Chief must also continue the police departmentís positive, collaborative working relationship with the Lake Bluff Volunteer Fire Department. 


Candidates must possess a bachelorís degree in criminal justice, business administration, public administration, communications, or related field. Candidates should also have at least five years experience in a law enforcement management position.   A Masterís degree or completion of an advanced police management school is desired. 


Residency is required by Village code but the Village Board may consider special circumstances.



Starting Salary Range:


$130,000 +/- DOQ
