The Lake County Forest Preserve District is seeking a dynamic and energetic leader to manage the Public Safety division responsible for providing protection and public access to the District's more than 25,000 acres of natural resources and ensuring the safety of the public using the preserves.

 

Reporting to the Director of Operations and Public Safety, this position manages a budget of $2 million and a staff of 18 FT and 31 PT sworn and civilian employees.

 

 

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Bachelorís Degree in criminal justice, conservation, parks management, public administration or related field

  • 7 years experience in law enforcement and the supervision of law enforcement officers

  • Completion of basic police training as well as advanced police leadership training

  • Ability to regularly qualify with duty side arm and successfully pass and re-qualify in specialized training areas

  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships

  • Effectively present ideas, policies, projects and budgets verbally and in writing

  • Professionally represent the District at public meetings and events

  • Analytical skills to evaluate and decide on course of action in relation to law enforcement, planning, budgetary, and political needs and constraints with minimal direction

  • Experience balancing customer service and law enforcement issues of a public agency charged with both resource protection and public access
