Lateral Entry officers start one step higher for every two years of law enforcement experience, with a maximum of a two-step increase.

 

The Lake Forest Police Department has immediate openings for two full-time police officers and is currently conducting a Lateral Hiring Recruitment Process.

 

Applicants for lateral entry must have successfully completed the Minimum Standards Basic Law Enforcement Training Course, as provided in the Illinois Police Training Act, and shall have been employed as a sworn police officer with their respective Illinois law enforcement agency, consistent with the duties of a Lake Forest Police Officer, for at least two continuous years. 

 

If not currently employed by an Illinois law enforcement agency, applicant must have served as a police officer with an Illinois law enforcement agency for a period of at least two consecutive years and left the service of such agency in good standing within two years of application.

 

A police officer employed by another law enforcement agency outside the State of Illinois may also be considered for the Lateral Entry Program if they meet all academy waivers as determined by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board.

  • U.S. citizenship or an alien admitted for permanent residence

  • No felony convictions

  • Must establish residency within 27 miles of police station by end of 18-month probationary period

  • Must have high school education or equivalent

  • Corrected vision to 20/25 in each eye

  • Complete Lake Forest Application

  • Preliminary Interview

  • Preliminary Background Investigation

  • Police and Fire Commission Interview

  • POWER Test

  • Background Investigation

  • Psychological Evaluation

  • Polygraph Examination

  • Medical Examination and Drug Screen

 

Must be passed through each level before being allowed to move to the next step.
