The Fire and Police Commission for the City of LaSalle and the LaSalle Fire Department are currently accepting applications for the creation of an eligibility list for the position of Firefighter/Paramedic.

The application deadline is FEBRUARY 12, 2014 at 4:00 p.m.



You must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • $25 non-refundable application fee;

  • U.S. Citizenship;

  • High school diploma (or its equivalent);

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Must be 21 to under 35 years of age by application deadline (2.12.14), unless otherwise exempt by statute;

  • Must be an Illinois certified Firefighter II/Basic Operations Firefighter with the Illinois Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) at application deadline (2.12.14);

  • Submit proof of a valid Candidate Physical Ability Test (CPAT) and approved Ladder Climb card from a licensed agency. Card must be dated within one year of the written exam date (3.8.13 to 3.8.14). Must have valid CPAT and Ladder Climb certificate at time of hire as well;

    • NIPSTA (Northeastern Illinois Public Safety Training Academy) – Glenview, IL – or 847-998-8090.

    • SUFD (Southwest United Fire Districts) – Darien, IL – or 708-579-2064.

  • No felony convictions;

  • Must live within the city limits within one year after hire;

  • Must be Illinois Department of Public Health license Paramedic at time of hire;

  • Must be accepted by the Illinois Valley Community Hospital EMS system at time of hire.

Preference points will be awarded for Military service and/or possession of an Associate’s Degree in Fire Science or Bachelor’s degree in any field from a regionally accredited college/university.


All portions of the testing process are mandatory. Failure to attend and complete any portion of the process will result in elimination from employment consideration.

You are required to arrive at the testing location no later than 9:00 a.m. with photo identification (valid driver’s license or State ID) to sign-in.  NO LATE ADMITTANCE.  The testing process will consist of a traditional firefighter examination that assesses cognitive ability and behavioral characteristics.
