The Lincolnshire Police Department is currently comprised of 24 sworn officers and 4 non-sworn employees. The non-sworn members include 1 Community Service Officer, 1 full-time Records Clerk, 1 part-time Records Clerk, and an Administrative Assistant.  In 2017, the department generated over 26,000 calls for service, most of which came from officers’ self-initiated activities.


Core services provided by the Department include uniformed patrol operations, traffic enforcement, traffic crash investigation, criminal investigations, and youth services. The Department provides a full-time School Resource Officer to Stevenson High School and a patrol officer serves as the liaison to all three community grade schools.  In addition, the Police Department assigns officers to several specialized multi-jurisdictional units including, the Lake County Major Crimes Task Force, the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team, and the Northern Illinois Police Alarm System Emergency Services Team and Mobile Field Force. The Lincolnshire Police Department is also a member of the Northeastern Illinois Regional Crime Laboratory and the Illinois Law Enforcement Alarm System.



Starting salary for police officer:


$69,568, which increases to $71,307 effective January 1, 2019

The starting salary for a lateral transfer may, at the sole discretion of the Chief of Police, go up to $81,606 or step three of the salary scale. Effective January 1, 2019, step three of the salary scale increases to $83,647.

The Village of Lincolnshire is pleased to announce the recruitment and selection process for the position of Police Officer.


Interested candidates should submit their application packet, which includes a cover letter, resume, contact information for three work-related references, as well as additional paperwork listed in the application packet by June 25, 2018 at 12:00 p.m.

All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements established by the Village of Lincolnshire:

  • U.S. citizenship

  • Bachelor’s degree from accredited college or university obtained by September 1, 2018**

  • Lateral police transfers may begin the pay plan at Step 3 of the pay scale up to $81,606

  • No misdemeanor or felony convictions, excluding any juvenile cases previously expunged

  • At the time of employment, applicant must be legally eligible to operate a motor vehicle in the State of Illinois

  • Minimum of 21 years of age at time of application; be UNDER 35 years of age at the time of application and at such time as the initial eligibility list is posted, unless otherwise exempt by Statute

  • Any drug usage outside of the department's employment drug use policy will be a disqualifying factor for employment with the Village of Lincolnshire

  • Previous Lincolnshire Police Department applicants are eligible to re-apply unless applicant was disqualified for employment with the Lincolnshire Police Department during the background investigation

  • Must be able to successfully pass the P.O.W.E.R. test standards set forth by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (unless currently certified as a police officer as defined by the Illinois Police Training Act)

  • All employees are expected to present a professional appearance. Body piercing, other than ear piercing, must not be visible; Visible tattoos, intentional branding and/or scarring are prohibited and may not be covered with bandages, makeup, or additional clothing or compression sleeves, while wearing a short-sleeved uniform

  • Restrictions are also in place for hair styles, facial hair, and any facial modifications that deviate from conventional anatomical features such as earlobe gauges, subdermal implants, tongue piercing, etc.

Important Dates:

  • Phase I – Return completed application packets by Monday, June 25, 2018 at 12:00 p.m.

    • Completed application packets will be provided to the department’s Recruitment Committee for review.  Each application will be reviewed individually and on its own merits.  Application packets must be completed in their entirety and only those packets containing all the required documents will be considered.  Applicants will also undergo a pre-screening of their background.

  • Phase II – Orientation, Written Examination, and Writing Proficiency

    • The orientation and written examination will take place on Monday, July 9, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. The orientation and examination location will be provided to you via email during the week of June 25, 2018.

    • The written exam will begin immediately following the orientation.

    • Current certified police officers must attend the orientation of the police department, but will not be required to take the written examination.

  • Phase III – Oral Interviews and Background Process

    • Oral interviews will be scheduled during the week of July 16, 2018. The first round of oral interviews will be with members of the Recruitment Committee.

    • The second round of interviews will take place the week of August 27, 2018 with command staff personnel.

    • Before the second round of interviews, detectives will begin the extensive background process, which includes a polygraph exam and an integrity interview.


** Bachelor’s degree must be obtained by September 1, 2018

  • Summer 2018 Grads:

    • Applicants who attend a colleges/university that accepts completion of the police training academy or internship requirement for graduation will be considered. If an applicant’s school certifies in writing that all other graduation requirements are met, the applicant may apply and be hired prior to their summer 2018 bachelor’s degree completion.
