The Village of Lincolnshire is pleased to announce the recruitment and selection process for a second position of School Resource Officer at Stevenson High School. The police department is seeking to fill a second position with an experienced police officer who will be hired as a lateral entry. Generally, the scheduled working hours will be 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., but flexible hours are required. During non-school days, including school designated holidays and summer break, the School Resource officers may be assigned to any other area within the police department; to include patrol or investigations. School Resource Officers may also be scheduled to work at Stevenson High School during either of the two summer school sessions. It is expected the School Resource Officers schedule their vacation time during non-school days and break periods to avoid absences during the school year. The position also requires candidates to work after school events such as sporting events, dances, graduations, and other events upon request.


Interested candidates should submit their application packet, which includes a cover letter, résumé, contact information for three work-related references, as well as additional paperwork listed in the application packet.  Application packets will be screened, and selected candidates will be invited to participate in an oral interview.


There is an immediate vacancy to fill one position through the lateral entry process. We anticipate the School Resource Officer will be hired in the fall of 2018, and complete a full field-training program prior to placement in the school. It is anticipated the School Resource Officer will begin their SRO duties in Stevenson High School beginning January 2019.


Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply by September 1, 2018, however, the position will remain open until it is successfully filled. Interested candidates are strongly encouraged to submit their applications early in the hiring process to ensure consideration for the position before it is filled.



All applicants must meet the following minimum requirements established by the Village of Lincolnshire:

  • State of Illinois certification by the Illinois Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board

  • Applicants must have previous experience working in a school setting as a School Resource Officer

  • Juvenile officer certification required

  • Crisis Intervention Team and School Resource Officer certifications preferred

  • Must be a U.S. citizen

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university obtained by December 31, 2018

  • No misdemeanor or felony convictions, excluding any juvenile cases previously expunged

  • At the time of employment, applicant must be legally eligible to operate a motor vehicle in the State of Illinois

  • Minimum of 21 years of age at time of application

  • Any drug usage outside of the department’s employment drug use policy will be a disqualifying factor for employment with the Village of Lincolnshire

  • All employees are expected to present a professional appearance. Body piercing, other than ear piercing, must not be visible. Visible tattoos, intentional branding and/or scarring are prohibited and may not be covered with bandages, makeup, or additional clothing or compression sleeves, while wearing a short-sleeved uniform

  • Restrictions are also in place for hair styles, facial hair, and any facial modifications that deviate from conventional anatomical features such as earlobe gauges, subdermal implants, tongue piercing, etc.

  • Lateral police transfers may begin the pay plan at Step 3 of the pay scale (at the sole discretion of the Chief of Police based on experience, certifications, and qualifications). Currently, Step 3 salary is at $81,606, and on January 1, 2019, will increase to $83,647. Under the current officer contact (May 1, 2018 through December 31, 2021), officers attain top pay of $107,665 at step 7
