Eligibility Requirements:

  • $45.00 non-refundable application fee;

  • U.S. Citizenship;

  • No felony convictions;

  • Valid state-issued driver’s license;

  • Minimum of 21 years of age AND shall be under the age of 35 by the application deadline date (October 26, 2018) unless exempt from such age limitation as provided in Section 5/10-2.1-6 of the Fire and Police commissioner’s Act.

  • While the Village of Lyons allows candidate 21 years of age to test – by Ordinance the Village will not appoint any person to the position of full time police officer unless that person is at least twenty-three (23) years old at the time of appointment.

  • Be a high school graduate or possess a G.E.D equivalent;

  • Possess a valid POWER test card due at time of medical and psychological evaluation stage

  • POWER test may be taken at one of the following testing agencies:

  • Must successfully complete an oral interview;

  • Must successfully complete a background investigation (applicants will be required to fully disclose all personal matters, to include agreements and sealed files);

  • Must successfully complete a psychological evaluation and medical physical (including drug and alcohol screening).

Test will be held at in Lyons, IL – Exact location will be released to eligible candidates. Testing will take place in the morning. You are required to arrive at the testing location with photo identification (valid driver’s license, State ID or Military ID) to sign-in. An orientation will be provided immediately prior to the administration of the tests to provide further information regarding the testing process.
