The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the Village of Melrose Park is now accepting applications for the position of Police Officer.

You must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Citizenship:  Must be a U.S. Citizen. Must provide a copy of proof of U.S. citizenship. Eligible documents for verifying eligibility – U.S. Birth Certificate, Naturalization Papers or Passport.

  • Driver’s License:  Must possess a valid Driver’s License.

  • Age Requirements:  Applicant must have attained their 21st birthday at the last date for filing applications (7/18/18). Applicants must be less than 35 years of age at the time of application (7/18/18) unless exempt from age limitations as provided for in State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6.

  • Education:  Must have proof of a High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement AND must have a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited College or University OR four (4) years of active military duty with an honorable discharge is acceptable.

  • Character:  Must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character as described in State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6.

  • Vision:  Eyesight must be corrected to at least 20/20, and must have the ability to distinguish color and be void of night blindness.

  • Residence:  Applicants must reside within the boundaries of Melrose Park within one (1) year of completion of their probation period.

  • POWER Card Accepted:  Optional, NOTE:  must be issued between the dates of January 18, 2018 and July 18, 2018.  A Physical Ability Test will be administered on the day of testing for candidates not possessing a valid POWER Card.

  • Testing:  Must be able to successfully complete all phases of testing (written, oral, P.O.W.E.R., medical, polygraph and psychological)
