The Morton Grove Police Department is seeking qualified candidates for the positions of full-time and part-time Community Service Officers.

 

These are non-sworn, uniformed, civilian positions designed to provide office and field support for the police department.  Field support duties include but are not limited to handling non-criminal code violations, parking enforcement, traffic direction, animal control, school crossings, parades and special events.  Office support includes but is not limited to front desk reception, phone and radio support, clerical duties, court clerk duties and other administrative duties as assigned.

Candidates must possess excellent customer service skills.  Candidates must be able to communicate effectively via telephone, police radio or in person in a patient and courteous manner in a high stress environment.  Must be able to comprehend, interpret, explain and make decisions in accordance to established department procedures and policies.  Preferred candidates will possess some law enforcement background that can include CSO/Auxiliary experience.
 


GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Must be able to work any shift plus weekends and holidays if needed.

  • Must be able to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.

  • Must be able to handle animals of varying sizes and weights.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Clerical/customer service experience.

  • Strong ability to multi-task and high attention to detail.

  • Self-starter and ability to work independently.

  • Microsoft Office Suite experience.

  • Ability to learn industry specific software.

  • Team player and ability to interact well with others.

  • Excellent time management skills.

  • Valid Illinois driver’s license and clear driving record.

  • Candidates must pass a background investigation, polygraph test, psychological examination, medical exam and drug screen.

PART-TIME DESK CSO


Salary Range:

 

$18.55 to $19.02 per hour, plus uniform allowance

 


Shift:

 

Current expected regular mandatory hours for part-time CSOs are a minimum of three (3) consecutive 4 to 8 hour shifts during the midnight shift.   Employees may be allowed to work additional hours and if trained, work other shifts, when available but are limited to 1,000 hours per year.  Employees may on occasion be required to work 16 consecutive hours depending on manpower needs.

 


Responsibilities:

 

Duties include but are not limited to:

  • Front desk reception

  • Data entry

  • Assisting police and the public in person and on the telephone

  • Report writing

  • Other office support duties

FULL-TIME CSO


Salary Range:

 

$42,894.00 to $55,488.00 plus yearly uniform allowance.
 


Shift Information:

 

Current expected regular hours are 8 hour shifts between 6am – 5pm, Monday to Friday.  Employee may be assigned to other workdays or shifts depending on departmental needs. Employee on occasion may be required to work 16 consecutive hours depending on manpower needs.
 


Responsibilities:

 

Employee may be assigned to work in the office or out in the field.

 

Field support duties include but are not limited to:

  • Handling non-criminal code violations

  • Parking enforcement

  • Traffic direction

  • Animal control

  • School crossings

  • Parades and special events

Office support includes but is not limited to:

  • Front desk reception

  • Phone and radio support

  • Clerical duties

  • Court clerk duties

  • Other various administrative duties
