CRIME PREVENTION SPECIALIST

(Part-time, 30 hours/week)

Wage Range:

 

$21.49 (minimum of range) – $27.14 (midpoint of range) per hour, commensurate with experience

 

 

The City of Naperville’s Police Department seeks a part-time Crime Prevention Specialist to work 30 hours/week, Mon – Fri (primarily on days,  but may require occasional evening and weekend hours).

 

This position is responsible for identifying, developing, and presenting programs to community groups, schools and the general public.

 

 

Serving as one of the Police Department’s public education representatives, key responsibilities of the position include:

  • Working with schools and other community groups to influence youth on topics such as substance abuse, child abuse, vandalism and shop lifting;

  • Developing and preparing the annual Crime Prevention Calendar;

  • Leading tours of the Police Department;

  • Serving as liaison to community programs such as “Helping Hands” and “Crime Stoppers,” as well as "Safe Sitter" Workshops, scouting programs, and numerous other programs and initiatives.

 

Qualifications:

  • This position requires high-level skills in public speaking, community relations, and written communication (including presentations and displays).

  • Candidates should have experience giving presentations to elementary school children and have good classroom management skills as well as possess a demonstrated ability to deal effectively with the public.

  • An Associate’s degree in a related field is required; a Bachelor’s degree or teaching certificate is preferred.

  • A minimum of 1 - 3 years experience in public relations, crime prevention,  social work or a related field is required.

  • All candidates must possess a  valid Illinois Class D driver’s license and will be required to successfully pass a polygraph test as well as a drug screen.
