The Emergency Management Coordinator is responsible for the preparation, development, and training of plans for the mitigation, response, and recovery of the Northern Illinois University Department of Police & Public Safety in the event of University wide emergencies, disasters, or other critical incidents.  The incumbent ensures University compliance with federal, state, local rules and regulations and plan development recommendations.  The Emergency management Coordinator works collaboratively with federal, state, county and local government agencies to establish and maintain critical incident prevention, response and recovery strategies.

Scheduled work hours are 8:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m. M-F with occasional weekend and evening hours to meet the operational needs of the department in large scale events and emergency circumstances.

Starting Salary:


$2,006.00/semi-monthly plus benefits

  1. Bachelor's degree in any field from an accredited college or university.

  2. Three years (36 months) of emergency management experience.

  3. Successful completion of National Incident Management System (NIMS) IS-100 and IS-700 curriculum.

  4. Possession of a valid State of Illinois driverís license.

  5. No record of conviction of a felony or a crime involving moral turpitude.

NOTE:  Part-time employment is calculated to a full-time equivalent.

The preferred candidate will have a Masterís Degree, Juris Doctorate or a post graduate degree as well as knowledge of relevant public safety and security equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies and knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules and the democratic political process. Please note:  Additional points are awarded on the examination for current certifications (i.e. IPDS, IPEM, FEMA, IAEM).  Copies must be provided along with your application materials in order to receive credit on the examination.
