Northwest Central Dispatch System (NWCDS), Arlington Heights, Illinois, is seeking a highly qualified public safety communications professional for the position of Assistant Director - Support Services.


NWCDS is located approximately 25-miles northwest of downtown Chicago. NWCDS is formed by a joint venture among 11-suburban municipalities. It also provides contractual services to 2-fire protection districts. Serving a population of about 500,000 people residing in a nearly 170-square mile area, NWCDS also serves thousands of businesses and visitors. NWCDS is a sophisticated PSAP with modern equipment and a dedicated, professional workforce. The staff consists of an Executive Director, 2-Assistant Directors, 7-Operations Managers, 70-Telecommunicators and 7-other support staff positions. The governing body for the agency consists of a Board of Directors made up of the 11-City/Village Managers or Administrators of the member communities. The Executive Committee is comprised of the police and fire chiefs of the agencies served.  The Executive Director reports to these 2-entities and the Assistant Directors report to the Executive Director.

The Assistant Director-Support Services performs direct supervision of the CAD/GIS managers, radio technicians, and the IT Manager.  She/he is responsible for managing support projects from design through implementation. She/he manages the coordination, implementation, and maintenance for all technological enhancements of the E9-1-1 and telephone system, radio system, CAD system, and other support systems. She/he assists in the development of policies and procedures and thoroughly investigates technical problems and complaints. The Assistant Director – Support Services is involved in a myriad of additional responsibilities and tasks, including being a point-of-contact/liaison for member agency personnel.

The new Assistant Director–Support Services will play a key role in the selection and implementation of a new CAD system for Northwest Central Dispatch System.


Applicants must have:

  • A minimum of 5-years of successful management and technical public safety communications experience, preferably in a multi-agency police and fire environment.

  • NENA (ENP) and APCO (RPL) certifications are highly desirable.

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or higher is preferred, but candidates with a commensurate amount of public safety communications experience may be considered.


Starting Salary Range:


$97,000 - $107,000 (DOQ) per year


with excellent benefits, including participation in the Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund
