The Village of Onarga, Illinois, population 1,368 is a small community located in Iroquois County, Illinois, in East Central Illinois midway between Champaign and Kankakee on I-57, is seeking an experienced police professional to lead itís Police Department. 

 

The Police Department consists of one full-time Chief position and four part-time officers.

 

The Village of Onarga is seeking candidates with strong communication skills, excellent leadership and management skills and a proven record of being actively involved in the community.  The ideal candidate must be an effective leader, capable of gaining the trust and respect of the members of the community, department and elected officials;  and must be committed to training, professional development, community service and engagement.

 

The successful candidate may have a Degree in Police Administration, Public Administration or Criminal Justice related field or related Police experience.  Candidates who are not currently certified as a Law enforcement Officer in Illinois may also be considered if they meet minimum requirement by statue for certification eligibility.

 

The Chief will be expected to maintain cooperative relationships with other local, area and state law enforcement and emergency agencies, as well as with the Onarga businesses, local organizations and residents.

 

The salary range and benefits package for this position are commensurate with experience and education.

 

The Chief will be required to maintain residency within the village.

 

Employment requires successful completion or present proof of completion of the POWER Test, medical evaluation, background investigation and training.
