The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners is accepting applications to establish a Firefighter Eligibility Register.



Applicants must:

  • Be 21 years of age and must not have reached their 35th birthday as of August 20, 2014

  • Have a high school diploma or G.E.D.

  • Possess a valid driver’s license

  • Be in excellent physical health

  • Be of good moral character


Starting salary for this position:


$45,249.08 effective May 1, 2014



Minimum Requirements:

  • All applicants for a position with the fire department shall possess a minimum of a valid EMT-B license issued by the Illinois Department of Public Health (“IDPH”) on the final date for submission of applications to the Board.

  • Applicants must submit a copy of the valid license and any other proof required by the Board.  Any license under suspension or review by the IDPH at the time of the close of applications shall be deemed to be an invalid license.

  • Applicants must be a United States citizen. 

  • Residency within 15 months of employment must be maintained in the City or within five (5) miles of any area of Ottawa City limits.

  • Applicants must present a valid CPAT (Candidate Physical Ability Test) with the completed applications. Please contact the Fire Chief at the Ottawa Fire Department with any inquiries regarding this requirement.
