The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the City of Pontiac is now accepting applications for the position of Police Officer.

 

Testing is being conducted for an immediate new hire and to establish an Eligibility List for anticipated future hiring needs.

 

The City of Pontiac is the county seat of Livingston County. It is also the home of the Route 66 Hall of Fame Museum. Pontiac is rich in history and offers small town living with something for everyone!

 

The mission of the Pontiac Police Department is to work in partnership with the community to protect life and property, solve neighborhood problems and to enhance the quality of life in the city.

You must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Citizenship:  Must be a U.S. Citizen and/or an alien admitted for permanent residence or lawfully admitted for temporary residence, and who produces evidence of intention to become a citizen of the United States

  • Driverís License:  Must possess a valid Driverís License at the time of application with the ability to obtain an Illinois Driverís License upon time of hire

  • Age Requirement:  Applicants must be under the age of 35 years old at the last date of filing application (8/22/18) and at such time as the Final Eligibility List is posted, unless exempt by State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6., which provides in part that the age limitation does not apply to any person previously employed as a Certified (full-time) Law Enforcement Officer for a municipality. Applicants must have attained their 21st birthday by the last date for filing applications (8/22/18) or are 20 years of age and have successfully completed two years of law enforcement study at an accredited college or university

  • Education:  Must have proof of High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement AND an associateís degree OR in lieu one of the following: 1. Applicant has served for a minimum 24 months of honorable active duty or 180 days of active duty in combat duty in the United States Armed Forces and has not been discharged dishonorably or under circumstances other than honorable. 2. Applicant has successfully received credit for a minimum of 60 credit hours toward a bachelorís degree from an accredited college or university

  • Residence:  Applicant must reside within 15 miles of the City limits by the end of probationary period

  • Character:  Must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character

  • Testing:  Must be able to successfully complete all phases of testing
