Eligibility Requirements:

  • $30.00 non-refundable application fee

  • U.S. Citizenship

  • 21 and under 35 years of age by date of written examination, unless exempt from such age limitations as provided in Section 5/10-2.1-6 of the Fire and Police Commissioner’s Act

  • Valid driver's license

  • Associate's Degree in any field of study from an accredited college/university OR successfully completed a minimum of 60 semester credit hours toward a bachelor’s degree in any field of study from an accredited college/university

  • In lieu of college requirements, if applicant has GED or High School diploma, and has served for 24 months of honorable active duty in the United States Armed Forces and has not been discharged dishonorably or under circumstances other than honorable OR If applicant has served for 180 days of active duty in the United States Armed Forces in combat duty recognized by the Department of Defense and has not been discharged dishonorably or under circumstances other than honorable

  • Applicant must provide a valid POWER Test ID card - POWER test cards considered valid if issued between September 22, 2017 and September 22, 2018 (one year prior to written exam). POWER test cards may be obtained from one of the following agencies:

  • Eyesight uncorrected no worse than 20/100, corrected to 20/25 or better with contact lenses or spectacles

  • No felony convictions

  • Ability to pass all selection and training requirements. New officers must sign a reimbursement of expenses agreement contract if they leave within three years
