This part time opportunity for the Village of Schiller Park calls for a qualified, licensed medical professional to serve as first responder to life saving emergencies in the case of accidents and/or illnesses. It is imperative to deliver immediate medical treatments as needed, and stabilizing and transporting patients safely and expediently, while maintaining effective communications with all other medical personnel involved.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Driving an ambulance in response to fire and medical incidents safely but while maintaining a sense of urgency;

  • Provide comprehensive triage of patients at the scene and determine when to transport and any treatments required during transport;

  • Must be able to assess any extraordinary circumstances at the scene and act accordingly, such as communicable diseases, mental illness, violent or hysterical patients or family members;

  • Must maintain continual training to remain certified/licensed, and expand knowledge of techniques of the profession;

  • Will perform general maintenance of ambulances, auxiliary equipment and the station for continual and proper operation;

  • Will perform proper reporting functions for department, hospitals, and state records;

  • Will at all time while on duty maintain ethical customer service focus to promote community service as a continual goal;

  • Other relevant duties as assigned; will be required to work various days and hours, including holidays, as necessary.



  • Must possess valid Illinois Class C, Non-CDL driverís license; may consider applicant who meets all other qualifications to acquire license within one month of hire date.

  • Must be licensed through the state of Illinois as an EMT-Paramedic and be in the Loyola EMS System;

  • Graduation from high school (or GED), and completion of paramedic training, or proven equivalent training and experience in all needed areas of the profession;

  • Must have a minimum 6 months demonstrated and acceptable EMS service, knowledge of emergency medical and paramedic services, as well as the laws, ordinances and regulations of the positionís jurisdiction;

  • Must have the ability to perform all expected life-saving duties successfully under pressure of time and medical situational needs;

  • Should know proper care and maintenance of all medical equipment, tools, supplies, as well as ambulance and equipment used in department;

  • Should have knowledge of reporting requirements and use of computers and departmental software;

  • Should have excellent hearing, and be able to effectively communicate with victims, family members and other responders;

  • Will be required to be able sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, couch crawl for extended periods of time, and to lift/move up to 100 lbs.;

  • Should be able to perform responsibly under all types of weather conditions and conditions at the scene of any call.
