The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners for the City of Streator, Illinois will have applications available at Streator City Hall for the position of Firefighter beginning on 9/16/2015.  Completed applications will be accepted from Wednesday, 9/16/2015 until the deadline of Friday, 10/23/2015 @ 1:00 pm.

You must meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen

  • Driverís License: Must possess a valid Driverís License with the ability to obtain an Illinois Driverís License upon time of hire.

  • Age requirement: Applicants must be 21 years of age at the time they  file their application, last date being 10/23/2015, and must be under the age of 35 by the date they file their application, last date being 10/23/2015 and at such time as the final eligibility list is posted unless exempted as provided by Section 5/10-2.1-6 of the Fire and Police Commissionerís Act.

  • Education: Must have proof of High School Diploma, GED Certificate or High School Proficiency Statement.

  • Character: Must have no felony convictions and be of good moral character as described in State Statute 65 IL 5/10-2.1-6.

  • CPAT: Must possess a CPAT with Ladder Climb Certification that is valid on the date of the written test, 10/31/2015.

  • Vision: All candidates shall be required to submit to a vision examination to determine they have no impairment which would prevent them from performing essential functions included in the duties they may be called upon to perform as a member of the fire department.

  • Physical Ability: All candidates shall be required to undergo an examination of their physical ability to perform the essential functions included in the duties they may be called upon to perform as a member of the fire department.

  • Residence: Probationary Firefighter must establish residency within 1.5 miles of the corporate limits within the 12 month probationary period.

  • Testing: Must be able to successfully complete all phases of testing.

All individuals meeting eligibility requirements are encouraged to continue with the application process.

There is a $30.00 non-refundable administrative fee, which must be paid at time of submission.
