Records Supervisor – Police Department



The Village of Tinley Park seeks a full-time Records Supervisor.  This is a complex civilian position in the Tinley Park Police Department.  The incumbent is responsible for planning, coordinating and supervising the Records Division as well as managing and maintaining various computer systems utilized by the department.  This position requires detailed knowledge of applicable state, federal and local ordinances, laws, rules and regulations including  Freedom of Information Act and departmental procedures. 



Summary of Responsibilities:

  • The incumbent supervises the Records Division to include scheduling, hiring, evaluating and disciplining, and payroll functions for Police and 911 Dispatch;

  • Oversees the repository of all mandated records and reports in accordance with applicable statutes, policies and/or procedures;

  • Oversees all computer systems dealing with Police records;

  • Oversees all functions of the in-house parking ticket program, compliance with subpoena requests and other duties as assigned.



  • The successful candidate must possess a High School Diploma or GED equivalent, with preference given to Associate’s Degree or Bachelor’s Degree;

  • Experience supervising staff in related field (records management, customer service, data processing);

  • Previous experience within a Law enforcement environment is preferred;

  • Must have knowledge of the Police Department policies, principles and practices to direct and supervise the work activity of staff;

  • Must have the ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with employees, Village administration and the general public;

  • Must possess ability to recommend improvements to existing procedures, equipment and workflow;

  • Ability to maintain composure while interacting in a multi-task environment;

  • Ability to distinguish confidential material and apply department standards;

  • Or any combination of experience and education that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.


Residency Requirement:


Residency is required within the planning area of Tinley Park as defined in the Village’s Comprehensive Plan within one (1) year of employment.
