The Zoning Administrator is an entry-level position required to perform a variety of routine administrative tasks related to the enforcement of the adopted zoning and development ordinances of the Village as well as related policies, rules and regulations.  The Village of Tinley Park Zoning Administrator is assigned to the Planning Department and works under the direction and supervision of the Planning Director.

 

Must possess a working knowledge of zoning principles, inspection techniques, permit review, and be able to read surveys and plan documents as applicable to a municipal setting. The Zoning Administrator must possess advanced interpersonal skills and also written and oral communication skills as a primary role of the position will be to interpret ordinances and policies and professionally communicate these complex regulations to Village residents and business owners.  Must be able to establish and maintain professional working relationships with Village residents, the business community, homeowner associations, and supervisors is required.  Must be in a position to attend scheduled evening meetings of Zoning Board of Appeals and administrative hearings.

 

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma and three to six (3-6) years of experience related to zoning, code inspection, law enforcement or related fields or a Bachelor's Degree, plus two (2) years of experience related to zoning, code inspection, law enforcement or related fields; copy of diploma required upon application.

  • Specialized or technical training that may be obtained in high school commercial, computer or shop courses or by a relatively brief period (more than six months, but less that one year) of intensive preparation outside of school;

  • Successful completion of pre-employment testing as established by the Village; and

  • Clear and valid motor vehicle license; copy required upon application.

 

Pay Rate:

 

$19.51 per hour to start

Work Schedule:

 

Minimum of twenty-five (25) and maximum of thirty (30) hours per week, typically during normal business hours with some evening meetings.
