Understanding the diverse needs of the community, the Department promotes quality training and professional development and maintains a wide range of specialty positions such as Juvenile Officer, Field Training Officer, Evidence Technician, Accident Investigator, Crisis Intervention Team, Warrant Team, Fitness Trainer, Drug Task Force, School Liaison Officer, Community Relations Officer, DuPage County SWAT, Narcotics Detective, and many more.


As a large number of our police officers are preparing to retire, the Department expects to hire up to 10 new officers in the next two years.



Police Officer Minimum Requirements:

  • $25 non-refundable application fee;

  • U.S. Citizenship;

  • Applicant must have a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university by application deadline. Copy of official transcript must be provided by application deadline;

  • Possess a valid driverís license, which will be used for identification at all phases of testing;

  • Be at least 20 years of age and under 35 at time of application deadline, unless exempt by state statute;

  • Must have corrected vision to 20/20;

  • Completion and submission of online application and all required documents by 2:00 p.m. on Friday, September 28, 2018;

  • If a veteran of the military or currently serving, all claims for military preference points must be made in writing within 10 days after the date of Orientation (October 21, 2018), or the claim is deemed waived. Claims shall be submitted to the Boardís office, 303 W Wesley Street, Wheaton, IL 60187, ATTN: Human Resources Department, and include a copy of your DD-214.

Doors open at 8:45 a.m. Candidates should arrive with valid photo identification (valid Driverís License or State ID) and their POWER Card to sign in. If you do not possess a POWER Card at time of orientation, you must complete the POWER Test at 8:30 a.m. on Sunday, October 21, 2018, prior to orientation. Doors will open at 7:30 a.m. for candidates who do not possess a POWER Card and must complete the POWER Test.


Orientation begins at 9:35 a.m. and the written exam will immediately follow. Candidates arriving after 9:30 a.m. will NOT be permitted to test. Candidates are not allowed to leave the testing grounds.
