ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Designs, maintains, analyzes, documents, troubleshoots and repairs computer systems, hardware, networks and computer peripherals.

  • Develops database queries and reports.

  • Installs and configures new and specialized personal computer systems.

  • Reviews, monitors and upgrades existing personal computer systems on all Sheriff’s Office workstations throughout various locations.

  • Participates in testing and evaluation of new and updated software.

  • Identifies and resolves technical problems related to computer hardware and software.

  • Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information obtained through the execution of regular duties.

  • Maintains an accurate inventory of all computer hardware and software within the Sheriff’s Office.

  • Assists in the support of network equipment such as servers, SAN’s, switches and routers.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge and experience in Crystal Report Writer, VB, all Microsoft Office products and SQL is required.

  • Networking: Must have an operational understanding of Local Area Networks with aptitude to assist in isolation and troubleshooting of reported user problems. Experience with Microsoft Exchange a plus.

  • Database: Must have a working knowledge of databases and be able to troubleshoot and maintain SQL.

  • Problem Solving: Must have excellent problem solving skills and be capable of breaking down complex situations to discover and resolve root causes as applied to software and process issues without the intervention of supervision.

  • Communication Skills: Must be able to write and communicate effectively with end-users, IT staff, and third party vendors in resolving issues and enhancements to informational systems.

  • Hardware: Must have an in-depth understanding of PC hardware and the aptitude to perform repairs effectively.

  • Skills in:

    • Written communication to prepare necessary reports and other paperwork.

    • Strong oral communications to interact with end users.

    • Time management to plan and organize tasks, multi-task and meet deadlines with individual job assignments.

 

Ability to:

  • Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

  • Prepare complete, concise, and accurate written and oral reports.

  • Perform functions of the job under stressful and critical situations.

  • Works closely with others as a team.

  • Have the ability to work flexible hours during times of outages and upgrades.

 

EDUCATION AND PREVIOUS RELATED EXPERIENCE:

  • Must possess a Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related or appropriate field such as Computer Science.

  • Must have a minimum of five years on the job experience.

  • Certifications are recommended but not required.
