Northfield, Minnesota (population 19,413) is seeking qualified individuals for a police captain position.

 

 

Salary Range for 2008:

 

$67,815 to $84,769

(hiring range $67,815 to $72,901)

Vibrant two-college community located on the southern edge of Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area that is well known for educational excellence, historic character, large manufacturers, and a charming downtown.

 

 

Position reports to the police chief and is responsible for management and development of all functions of a division of the police department, including but not limited to:

  • Directing day-to-day operations

  • Assisting with budget preparation

  • Organizational planning

  • Providing communications to the chief, outside agencies, and others

  • Directing officer training

  • Establishing performance levels

  • Conducting performance reviews

  • Develop policies and procedures that ensure effective and efficient achievement of organizational goals and objectives

  • In the absence of the chief, a captain may be assigned to assume the chiefís duties

 

Qualified candidates will possess:

  • Bachelorís degree from an accredited college or university

  • Eight or more years of continuous experience as a law enforcement officer with an uncompromised record of increasing responsibility and achievements

  • Three years at a rank of sergeant or above

  • Any combination of education and/or experience that provides equivalent knowledge, skills and abilities will be considered
