Detect, Deter, Defeat

Safeguard the United States and its interests around the world as a Federal Air Marshal. Become a Federal law enforcement officer and protect the nationís traveling public. As highly trained law enforcement professional you will detect and prevent crime and defend our nation against terrorism.

The mission of the TSA Office of Law Enforcement/Federal Air Marshal Service (OLE/FAMS) is to promote public confidence in the security of our nationís transportation domain. To achieve this mission, OLE/FAMS deploys Federal Air Marshals on U.S. aircraft worldwide; conducts law enforcement operations, protection, response, detection, and assessment activities in airports and other transportation systems; maintains TSAís state of preparedness and coordinates incident management; trains and manages all armed pilots; and coordinates all TSA canine assets.

Major Duties:

  • The employee serves as an entry level Federal Air Marshal for the Department of Homeland Security, TSA Office of Law Enforcement/Federal Air Marshal Service.

  • The primary duties and responsibilities of a Federal Air Marshal involve deployments worldwide protecting U.S. air carriers on passenger flights to deter or counter the risk of terrorist activity, aircraft piracy, and other crimes in order to meet national security concerns.

  • Other duties may include the protection of the nationís transportation infrastructure.

  • Federal Air Marshals travel frequently, carry out their missions independently and with minimal supervision, and are trained and prepared to operate in a highly stressful environment with little or no back-up available.

As Federal law enforcement officers, Federal Air Marshals are responsible for policing and securing the nationís transportation systems, protecting U.S. commercial aviation assets in foreign countries, making arrests (with and without arrest warrants), participating in criminal investigations, seeking and executing arrest and search warrants, testifying in court proceedings, conducting interviews and interrogations, representing the U.S. government in foreign countries, and working closely with other U.S. and foreign law enforcement agencies. Federal Air Marshals are deployed worldwide on passenger flights of U.S. carriers to detect, deter, and defeat hostile acts targeting U.S. carriers, airports, crews, and passengers.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • You must be a US citizen.

  • You must be between the ages of 21 and 36 or have prior qualifying Federal civilian law enforcement experience.

  • You must have three years of general experience or a college degree from an accredited college/university or a combination of education and experience.
