The City of Grand Prairie is seeking a strong, innovative and progressive leader for our Municipal Jail to engage employees through teamwork, motivation and inclusion.  This position oversees all personnel, operations, technical assignments and budget associated with the municipal jail to ensure safe and efficient operations.  The Grand Prairie jail is part of our new Public Safety building, managed by a staff of 4 supervisors and 32 detention officers, and houses 80 inmates on daily average.

 

The successful candidate must demonstrate in writing through the application submitted a demonstrated ability to set and achieve goals, monitor performance and implement innovative technology and/or strategies to improve efficiency.  The ability to control reactions in stressful situations, coping with emergencies and analyzing and solving detention operation problems is imperative. General direction is provided by the Deputy Police Chief over Support Operations.

 

The Detention Manager is expected to demonstrate a commitment to Raving Fans service and maintain an open door policy.  Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills are imperative to effectively interact with citizens, staff, police officers, municipal judge and other city departments. 

 

A Bachelors degree majoring in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, Business Administration or related field and at least two years of progressively responsible supervisory/management experience is required.  Experience as a detention supervisor or a thorough knowledge of operation of a jail facility similar to that in the City of Grand Prairie is preferred.  The detention operation runs 24-7 so the selected candidate must have the ability to work any hours, including nights, holidays and weekends.  Must be able to pass a drug screen, polygraph, psychological exam, background investigation and possess a Texas driver's license. Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying.

 

 

Pay Range:

 

$49,760 - $79,614

depending on qualifications
