To Qualify You Must:

• An Associate degree OR 60 hours of college credit from an accredited institution OR 24 months of honorable military service OR 180 days of military combat duty;
• Have vision correctable to 20/20;
• Be a U.S. citizen and have a valid Illinois driver’s license;
• Pass oral interview, background investigation, polygraph, psychological exam, and medical exam, including a drug screening.
• Status as a certified Police Officer in the State of Illinois for one year after completion of a probationary period. In good standing in the police department in which the person currently serves.
• Possess substantially equivalent skills and abilities as a Village of Arlington Heights Police Officer who has completed the probationary period, as determined by the Village, and taken and passed such examinations as the Commission deems necessary to determine fitness for duty as a police officer.

Length of selection process varies based on vacancies. Customarily, the process takes 4-6 months.

Applicants may reapply after six months if not selected.
